TYPES OF CAR PAINT

There is a plethora of products in the automotive paint industry and for such an important job, quality is everything. Here's a quick overview of the options you'll find in our store:

1K SINGLE COAT CONVENTIONAL COLORS

1K single coat paints are paints with hardeners and do not need varnish. The chemical properties of 1K paint help it to air dry naturally and are easier to use, offering excellent durability. Most body shops use it because it is fairly easy to work with and get the job done. It offers greater resistance to micro-bumps and the possibility of local painting and with a better result. It also dries three to five times faster, so it's touch dry within 30 minutes in most cases, while 2K paint can last 3-4 hours.

CONVENTIONAL 2K DOUBLE COATING COLORS

2K double-coat paints offer depth of color, greater durability (especially in bright colors) and paint flexibility. The chemical properties of 2K paint mean that it dries by chemical reaction and requires varnish as a top coat. 2K paints tend to be coating systems that use acrylic or polyurethane (PU) resins, while 1K paints use pigments and are water or solvent based. 2K paint dries more slowly and is more difficult to use, but it is more durable.

Double-coat paints are used in special applications, while single-coat paints are intended for general use.

WATER SOLUBLE COLORS – WATER BASED

Water-based paint is the most environmentally friendly and widely used way of painting a car today. Water-based paint has much less odor and still produces bright and clear colors and also requires less varnish than water-based paint.

POLYURETHANE PAINTS

For long lasting coverage, your body shop will recommend urethane. They are usually applied to engine parts and components that are subject to high temperatures. It dries quickly and provides an extremely durable finish. Urethane is useful when local repairs are being done on the vehicle, as it does not react with other types of paint.

DIRECT TO METAL “DTM” PAINT COLORS

DTM paints can be applied directly to metals, giving a nice architectural appearance and weather protection. In addition, this type of coating requires minimal surface preparation and works as both a primer and top coat. DTM paints are specifically designed to be compatible with metal and alleviate many of the problems painters face when trying to cover metal with standard coatings.

PRIMER

Provides a smooth surface, smoothing out marks and other forms of surface defects after car repair. It improves the process of applying the paint by facilitating the adhesion of the colors to the surface of the vehicle.

COLOR – BASE COAT

It is applied after the primer coating. It contains the visual properties of color and effects, and is usually what is referred to as color. Basecoat is usually divided into three categories: solid, metallic and pearl pigments.
